Supported Audio Formats
| Format | Extension(s) | Bit Depth | Sampling Frequency | Bit Rate | Encoding |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| MP3 | .mp3 | 16 bit | 44.1 kHz, 48 kHz | 32–320 kbps (MPEG-1) | MPEG-1 Audio Layer-3, CBR & VBR |
| AAC | .m4a, .aac, .mp4 | 16 bit | 44.1 kHz, 48 kHz | 16–320 kbps | MPEG-4 AAC LC, MPEG-2 AAC LC, CBR & VBR |
| WAV | .wav | 16 bit, 24 bit | 44.1 kHz, 48 kHz | — | Uncompressed PCM |
| AIFF | .aif, .aiff | 16 bit, 24 bit | 44.1 kHz, 48 kHz | — | Uncompressed PCM |
| FLAC | .flac, .fla | 16 bit, 24 bit | 44.1 kHz, 48 kHz | — | Lossless compression |
| Apple Lossless | .m4a | 16 bit, 24 bit | 44.1 kHz, 48 kHz | — | ALAC |
Some files may not play even if the format is listed as supported. The most common cause is encoding that technically matches the format but violates the exact spec — see compatibility issues below.

Common Compatibility Issues
WAV/AIFF/FLAC/ALAC: Sample rate above 48 kHz not supported
Unlike the CDJ-3000X (96 kHz), the CDJ-1500X caps out at 48 kHz for WAV, AIFF, FLAC, and Apple Lossless. Files at 88.2 kHz or 96 kHz that play fine on a CDJ-3000X will fail to load or get skipped on the 1500X — this is the single biggest compatibility gap between the two players.
Resample affected tracks to 44.1 kHz or 48 kHz before exporting to USB. Boothready detects and auto-fixes out-of-range sample rates automatically.
WAV: 32-bit float files do not play
The CDJ-1500X only supports 16-bit and 24-bit PCM WAV. Tracks exported from DAWs like Ableton Live or Logic Pro default to 32-bit float WAV, which the player rejects silently — the track appears in the library but fails to load.
Full fix guide: CDJ E-8304/E-8305: 32-bit Float WAV Fix — Pioneer CDJWAV: Non-standard header format (WAV EXTENSIBLE)
Some recording software writes WAV files using the EXTENSIBLE header format instead of standard PCM. The CDJ-1500X cannot parse this variant and will refuse to play the file even if the audio data itself is compatible.
Full fix guide: CDJ E-8305: WAVE_FORMAT_EXTENSIBLE WAV Fix (Bandcamp)AIFF: Compressed AIFF-C files not supported
Only uncompressed PCM AIFF is supported. AIFF-C (compressed) files will not play. This is rare but can occur with exports from certain older Pro Tools versions.
Full fix guide: CDJ E-8305: Compressed AIFF-C File Fix (ALAW, ADPCM)AAC: DRM-protected files cannot be played
AAC files purchased from the iTunes Store before 2009 contain FairPlay DRM. The CDJ-1500X cannot decrypt them — the .m4a format is supported, but DRM-locked files are not. There is no technical fix; a DRM-free source is required.
Full fix guide: CDJ E-8305: DRM-Protected AAC (iTunes Store) Cannot PlayUSB: NTFS filesystem not recognized
USB devices formatted as NTFS will not appear in the source list at all. Windows 10/11 defaults to NTFS when formatting large USB drives. The CDJ-1500X supports FAT16, FAT32, exFAT, and HFS+ — but not NTFS.
Reformat your USB device as exFAT (recommended for large drives and large files), FAT32, or HFS+. On Windows: right-click the drive → Format → exFAT. On Mac: Disk Utility → Erase → ExFAT or Mac OS Extended.
PRO DJ LINK: File path too long
Tracks load fine directly from USB but fail via PRO DJ LINK. The full file path — including all folder names and the filename — must be under 256 characters. Deep folder structures with long artist, label, or title names frequently exceed this limit.
Flatten your folder structure or shorten folder and file names before exporting to USB.
PRO DJ LINK: Slower network than CDJ-3000X
The CDJ-1500X connects via 100BASE-TX (Fast Ethernet, 100 Mbps) instead of the 1000BASE-T (Gigabit) used by the CDJ-3000X and CDJ-2000NXS2. In mixed setups, this can slow down waveform and track data transfer between linked players.
Use a switch that supports all connected player speeds, and avoid relying on LINK EXPORT for very large files if a 1500X is in the chain.
No SD card slot — USB only
Like the CDJ-3000X, the CDJ-1500X has no SD card slot. USB, Wi-Fi, and PC/Mac are the only media sources. If your workflow involves SD cards, you will need an SD-to-USB adapter.
Use a USB drive. For large file collections, exFAT is recommended as it removes the FAT32 4 GB per-file limit.
Check your library
Scan for compatibility issues before your gig
Manually checking files works for single tracks. For a full library of hundreds or thousands of files, Boothready scans everything in one pass — WAV encoding, sample rates, FLAC compatibility on older models, and path lengths — and auto-fixes what it can before you export to USB.
About the CDJ-1500X
The CDJ-1500X is AlphaTheta's first budget-focused multi player since the XDJ-1000MK2, announced in July 2026 for small clubs, bars, and home setups. It pairs a larger 10.1-inch touchscreen (up from 9 inches on the CDJ-3000X) with built-in Wi-Fi in a lighter, more compact chassis, but the audio spec sheet is not identical to its flagship sibling: WAV, AIFF, FLAC, and Apple Lossless top out at 48 kHz instead of 96 kHz, and PRO DJ LINK runs over 100BASE-TX rather than Gigabit Ethernet. There is no SD card slot — USB, Wi-Fi, and PC/Mac are the only sources.

Frequently asked questions
Does the CDJ-1500X support FLAC?
Yes. The CDJ-1500X supports FLAC (.flac, .fla) at 16-bit and 24-bit — but only at 44.1 kHz or 48 kHz, unlike the CDJ-3000X which also supports 88.2 kHz and 96 kHz FLAC.
Does the CDJ-1500X support exFAT?
Yes. The CDJ-1500X supports FAT16, FAT32, exFAT, and HFS+ — the same filesystem support as the CDJ-3000X. NTFS is not supported.
What is the difference between CDJ-1500X and CDJ-3000X?
The CDJ-1500X is a lighter, more affordable player with a larger 10.1-inch touchscreen (vs. 9 inches on the CDJ-3000X) and the same built-in Wi-Fi, but it caps WAV/AIFF/FLAC/ALAC at 48 kHz instead of 96 kHz, uses 100BASE-TX instead of Gigabit PRO DJ LINK, and adds CoBeat crowd-request support. Core format and filesystem support (MP3, AAC, exFAT, no NTFS) is otherwise identical.
Does the CDJ-1500X have an SD card slot?
No. Like the CDJ-3000X, the CDJ-1500X has no SD card slot. USB, Wi-Fi, and PC/Mac are the only supported sources.
Why does my 96 kHz WAV file not play on the CDJ-1500X?
The CDJ-1500X's maximum supported sample rate is 48 kHz for WAV, AIFF, FLAC, and Apple Lossless — lower than the CDJ-3000X's 96 kHz. Resample the file to 44.1 kHz or 48 kHz, or let Boothready auto-fix it.
